Redhawk Notes: SEMO, Lindenwood battle to draw

The Southeast Missouri State women's soccer (5-5-1, 1-1-1 OVC) earned a point in the Ohio Valley Conference standings with a 0-0 draw against Lindenwood (4-6-3, 1-1-2 OVC) Sunday at Houck Field.

It was the first time as conference opponents that the programs had met and the second time in program history.

The Redhawks outshot the visiting Lions, 17-11 (6-4 SOG), including a commanding second-half advantage of 11-2.

Former Notre Dame High School standout Megan Heisserer led SEMO with three shots Sunday including a shot on target.

Zoe Houston also registered three shots Sunday including one on goal.

The freshman from St. Charles notched a shot that was saved in the 49th minute.

Cayla Koerner and Kiana Khedoo finished with two shots (1 SOG) each.

Redhawk goalkeeper Sophia Elfrink made four saves for her fourth shutout of the 2022 campaign.

SEMO will visit Little Rock on Thursday at 4 p.m.

Redhawks sweep OVC foe

The Southeast Missouri women's volleyball (8-8, 3-1 OVC) wrapped its first Ohio Valley Conference road series of the season with a 3-0 (26-24, 25-19, 25-21) sweep of UT Martin (10-8, 4-1 OVC) Saturday at the Skyhawk Fieldhouse.

With the victory, SEMO split the regular-season series with UTM and handed the Skyhawks their first loss in league matches.

Zoey Beasley led the offense with 13 kills on a .375 rate.

Kayla Closset added 12 kills and eight digs.

Gardner posted six kills with five blocks and three digs (PR) on a .267 Saturday.

Colby Greene added five kills and four blocks in the win, while Mackenzie Meehan finished with four kills and four blocks.

Izzy Lukens dished out 21 assists with six digs and a kill, while Kaelyn O'Brien compiled her sixth double-double of the season with 14 assists, 11 digs, six kills, and four blocks.

Tara Beilsmith grabbed 25 digs with four assists and an ace.

SEMO out-blocked the Skyhawks, 10-6, and led every statistical category besides aces.

SEMO will host Eastern Illinois on Friday at 6 p.m.

Redhawk runners compete in Kentucky event

The Southeast Missouri cross country squads competed in the 21st Annual Live in Lou Cross Country Classic in Louisville on Saturday.

The men's and women's teams competed in the Gold Division with the men placing 31st in the 8K race with 849 total points, while the Redhawk women placed 35th accumulating 902 points in the 5K Gold race.

Noah Little paced the way for the Redhawk men placing 141st with a time of 25:08.3 in the 8K competition. It was Little's second-straight personal-best time.

Freshman Connor Ayres finished 180th and second in the Redhawks' pack with a time of 25:31.3, which shattered his previous personal-best.

Justin Splitt and Terrico Garrett finished 219th and 221st, respectively, with times of 25:51.8 and 25:52.7. For Splitt, the finish set a new personal-best.

Clayton Eftink (26:02.5), Aaron Modrow (26:13.9), Garrett Dumke (26:33.6), Jacob Blassingame (26:56.0), and Nick Cimmarusti (27:20.8) placed 234th, 249th, 267th, 282nd, and 291st, respectively.

Eftink's finish of 26:02.5 sets a new personal-best.

For the women, it was the reigning Ohio Valley Conference Runner of the Week Hannah Eastman who paced the Redhawks in the 5K event.

She crossed the line in 18:14.9 for 120th, and her second-straight personal-best time in the 5K by nearly 31 seconds.

Taylor Fox finished second for the Redhawks with an 18:28.1 finish for 156th overall, as she broke her personal best.

Katie Wegmann and Madelyn Gray went third and fourth within the Redhawks team, finishing in times of 18:45.4 and 18:47.9 for 199th and 204th, respectively.

For both runners, the final times set new personal bests.

Freshmen Layla Fliege and Lexie Dockstader finished in 310th and 313th, respectively, en route to earning new personal bests.

Fliege crossed the line in 19:33.0, while Dockstader completed the race in 19:35.5.

Haley Smith (20:07.3, 346th), Mackenzie Pugh (20:11.4, 351st), Kayla Vogelsang (20:17.5, 355th), and Sarah Russom (20:24.3, 358th) also competed for the Redhawks.

For Vogelsang and Russom, both runners set new personal bests.

SEMO will wrap up its regular season at the Bradley Pink Classic Oct. 14 in Peoria, Illinois.
