High School volleyball roundup, Sept. 19: Meadow Heights routs Leopold in straight sets
Meadow Heights (9-4) took a lopsided win on Monday night in straight sets against Leopold.
Meadow Heights crushed the Wildcats, winning 25-11, 25-9, 25-19.
The Panthers got 22 assists from senior Ashley Allen along with two kills and seven digs, while junior Cheyenne Tonjum’s 15 kills led her team.
Defensively, senior Miranda Green finished with eight blocks to pair with five aces to lead the team, while senior Halli Bollinger-Yount added four aces and seven kills.
Meadow Heights is next in action at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday at home against South Iron, while Leopold looks toward a 6 p.m. Tuesday home matchup against Bell City (13-1-1).
Dexter 3, Woodland 2
Dexter (7-4-1) took a thrilling five-set victory over Woodland (4-9-1) on Monday night, winning the first two sets before a Cardinals rally forced a fifth set.
Dexter took the first two sets 26-24, 25-23 before the Cardinals picked up 25-23, 26-24 wins to force a fifth set.
Big kill numbers led the way for Woodland, as senior Caroline Rhodes’ 27 and sophomore Mallary Barks’ 20 created a force on the front line. Junior Rhodie Long set up 55 assists on the night to lead the Cardinals offensively.
Senior Hailey Brotherton’s 33 digs led Woodland's defense, while junior London Cureton followed close behind with 17.
Dexter faces Sikeston at 7:15 p.m. on Wednesday in a home contest, while Woodland hosts Cape Central at 7 p.m. Tuesday.
Saxony Lutheran 3, Oak Ridge 1
Saxony Lutheran (13-0-1) took a four-set victory over Oak Ridge at home on Monday.
The Crusaders ultimately won 25-7, 20-25, 25-13, 25-6, but dropped their fourth set of the season in the process.
Saxony Lutheran will host Ste. Genevieve (10-2-2) at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday while Oak Ridge travels for a 7 p.m. Thursday matchup against East Prairie (8-4).
