High School tennis roundup, Sept. 15: Jackson edges Saxony Lutheran, 6-3, at home

Jackson girls tennis hosted Saxony Lutheran on Thursday and took a 6-3 win to improve to 12-3-1 for the season, while the Crusaders dropped to 5-6.

The Indians got singles wins from Caroline Selzer, Elda Giampaolo, Bailey Rees and Raelyn Ropp while also getting doubles wins from the pairings of Eva Carrasquilo/Rees and Giampaolo/Ropp.

The Crusaders got singles wins from Maggie Hillin and Abby Hailey, while the two paired up for Saxony Lutheranís only doubles win.

Jacksonís next action comes on Friday as the host of the Jackson Varsity Doubles Tournament, while Saxony Lutheran also looks to participate in the tournament.

Notre Dame 9, Poplar Bluff 0

The Notre Dame girls tennis team grabbed a dominant 9-0 win at home on Thursday, sweeping the Mules to improve to 6-4-1 on the season.

Notre Dameís Vita Galati, Suna Mungee, Katherine Moon, Elle West, Monica Coello and Karoline Harold all took home singles wins, while the pairings of Galati/Mungee, Moon/Coello and West/Harold all secured doubles wins for the Bulldogs.

Notre Dame next faces Fredericktown at 4 p.m. on Monday, Sept. 19 at home, while Poplar Bluff, now 2-3-1, takes on Arcadia Valley at 4 p.m. on Friday on the road.

Cape Central 9, Caruthersville 0

Cape Central girls tennis grabbed a big 9-0 victory at Caruthersville on Thursday, sweeping the hosting Tigers to improve to 3-11 for the 2022 season.

Central grabbed singles wins from Maria Mijangos, Megan Maxton, Kathryn Buckley, Sydney Britt, Lucy Cook and Emily Velasquez Rico, while the pairings of Mijangos/Maxton, Buckley/Sydnee Williams and Britt/Cook all took home doubles wins for Central.

Cape Central looks toward the Jackson Varsity Doubles Tournament on Friday in Jackson, Mo., while Caruthersville next faces 1-9 Sikeston at 4 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 20 at home.
