High School swimming roundup, Sept. 13: Cape Central drops tight 66-63 decision to Farmington

The Cape Central boys swim team entered the 400-yard freestyle relay with the slightest 59-58 edge over the Farmington Knights at home, but finished with a three-point loss with a second-place finish in the relay.

Had sophomore Phineas Theall and senior Adam Sparks not finished first and second in the 100 breaststroke event respectively, Cape Central wouldn’t have climbed out of a 49-55 hole entering the event to begin with. The comeback, however, fell just short as the Tigers couldn’t finish on top in the final event.

Central’s wins before the 100 breaststroke included sophomore Wiley Edmundson’s first-place finish in the 200-yard freestyle, senior Noah McRaven’s win in the 200-yard individual medley and the 100-yard butterfly and Theall’s win in the 50-yard freestyle. .

Cape Central next faces Poplar Bluff in another head-to-head meet at 4 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 20 in Poplar Bluff.
