Former SEMO men's basketball coach Rick Ray takes university's Board of Regents to court for alleged contract breach
Former Southeast Missouri State men's basketball coach Rick Ray is seeking restitution for an alleged breach of contract from the university's Board of Regents in an ongoing jury trial.
The trial began Tuesday and is scheduled to end Friday at Cape Girardeau County Courthouse in Jackson.
Court documents show Ray initially filed his petition on July 20, 2020, in St. Louis County. A change of venue was ordered by judge Nancy M. Watkins on Dec. 4, 2020, to Cape Girardeau County, where the trial is being conducted.
No further information such as damages sought was made available at the time of publishing.
The university declined to comment since the case is ongoing.
Ray served as the Redhawks men's basketball coach from 2015-2020 when he was terminated from the position. During his tenure he led the team to a 51-104 overall record, including a 27-59 mark against Ohio Valley Conference opponents.
Since leaving the Redhawks, Ray became an assistant men's basketball coach at the University of Colorado.
