Saxony Lutheran Lutheran baseball standout Jacob Johnson recently signed with Rockhurst University in Kansas City, Missouri, to continue his baseball career and further his education.

The school's engineering program drew the senior Crusader to sign.

“Rockhurst University has a really good engineering program,” Johnson said. “I’m focusing on getting a degree in that field like my parents before and when I visited the campus it just had a small-school type of atmosphere that I really liked.”

While on the diamond for the Crusaders, Johnson played six of the nine positions on the field throughout his career and feels he can utilize his versatility to his advantage moving forward.

“Catcher is my primary position,” Johnson said. “But I feel like I can play all over and not put my team in a bind because I haven’t committed a lot of errors in my high school career at any of the other positions. I’ll play wherever my team needs me and play that position to the very best of my ability.”

Johnson just wrapped up his senior season with Saxony Lutheran and produced a .404 average with two home runs while leading the team in RBIs and runs scored.

“While my average was good I feel I still need improvement hitting to be able to compete at a high level,” Johnson said.

Johnson expressed his gratitude to his parents and coaches for helping him throughout his career.

“I want to thank my parents for all the time and money spent helping me develop my game and all the coaches and trainers who spent countless hours helping me,” Johnson said in closing. “I would not be the player and person I am today without any of them.”

Johnson will steer toward a career in engineering and possibly look to a career in the military upon graduating from Rockhurst.
