HOLCOMB, Mo.- The Holcomb Lady Hornets played a semi-final district softball game against the Cooter Wildcats, in which Holcomb won 17-2 in three innings.

Alyssa Brown started on the mound for the Lady Hornets. She threw all three innings and allowed four hits, two runs, and two earned runs.

"I think she did alright," said Holcomb head softball coach Matt Casper. "She located okay struggled a little bit early but settled in there in the second inning and third inning. I thought she pitched well and they hit the ball a little bit which we are customed to. You know people are going to put the ball in play and we just have to make the plays behind her. I thought she did a pretty good job today overall."

Brown also finished with six strikeouts in just three innings, while facing 13 total batters on the day. Brown's Pitches to strikes rate was 56 pitches thrown to 34 strikes thrown, meaning she located very well in the ball game.

Holcomb finished with 10 hits in the ball game. They scored seven of their 17 runs off of discipline at the plate and getting walked on base.

"I thought we hit the ball really well today and we were patient at the plate," said Casper. "We preach discipline at the plate. I thought the girls waited until they got good pitches and didn’t help her. We took our walks when we needed to and like I said, putting 17 runs on the board in three innings is due to the discipline at the plate in this one."

Holcomb had four runs in the first inning, seven in the second, and six in the third inning.

This win is a big time for the Lady Hornets. They get to play in the district tournament, and a win there moves them on to regionals.

"Very good win and advancing to the championship in district is always a big deal," stressed Casper. "Proud of our girls for getting to that point, hopefully, we will be ready to finish off the job on Wednesday, but overall good already game for us today, and took care of business in three innings.

This is not the first time this year Holcomb has played a shirt game due to running up the score. Playing games like that could make them fresh for Wednesday.

"We play a ton of games," said Casper. "The experience that we have had has helped defensively and our pitching. We have tried to mix in enough games with the competition that we have played full games with, I think we have got a pretty good mix of everything It will once we get later into the championship and later into the postseason if we happen to get that far we will be playing full games so I think we will be ready for it and I think we have had a pretty good mix this season."
