HOLCOMB, Mo- On Monday, May 2nd, the Holcomb Lady Hornets softball team hosted the East Prairie Eagles on their senior night. Luckily for the Lady Hornets, it was a senior night made even more memorable by a 10-point win over the Eagles, 15-5.

It was the first time these two teams have played each other in nine years, and the Lady Hornets were able to walk away successful.

The story of this game was the big start Holcomb had in the first inning. A big part of the four runs they scored, were from the two-run home run Maleigh Lemmings had in the first inning, making the score 2-0 early.

Then, Alyssa Brown tripled on a line drive. Montana Long would bring the runner in on a single, and Privett would bring Long in on a double. It is safe to say the bats were right in this one.

"I thought we hit the ball pretty well yesterday," said Holcomb softball head coach Matt Casper. "I Just thought we had opportunities to finish the game earlier at the plate and didn’t capitalize. Maybe a little anxious at the plate and East prairie made plays to get out of the inning."

East Prairie was not able to match Holcomb in the first inning, or score at all for that matter. Just to make matters even worse for the Eagles, they gave up five more runs in the third inning.

The five run fifth inning can be accredited to Alyssa Brown, Montana Long, Allison Moody, Selena Burress, and Kaetlyn Danley, who all had at a run batted in in the inning.

Alyssa Brown started in the pitchers circle for the Lady Hornets on Monday. She went six innings, and allowed four hits and five runs. Brown also struck out two.

"I thought Alyssa pitched well but has pitched better," said Casper. "Our defense made some errors which we have to clean up. Our defense has been strong this year but needs to play as clean as possible at the end of the year."

Wilson was on the mound for East Prairie in the game. She gave up seven of the 11 hits in the game, and allowed eight runs, in 2.1 innings pitched. Stinnet threw 3.1 innings after her out of the bullpen, and allowed four hits, and seven runs.

The Holcomb Lady Hornets are one step closer to achieving the goal they set out.

"The girls understand what we are trying to accomplish at the end of the season and that mindset helps them stay focused on the task at hand," said Casper. "It was a Good win, I just want us to play cleaner."

East Prairie (5-10) will start the Class two District one tournament on May 6th. Holcomb (22-6) will start the Class one District one tournament on May 6th.
