ESSEX, Mo. — Delta picked up a 14-point win over Risco on Saturday to advance to the Class 1 District 2 semifinals.

The Bobcats went to the free throw line 36 times, hitting 19 of their attempts, and had a pair of 20-point scorers to help them toward an 81-67 win at Richland High School.

Carter Scherer led all scorers with 29 points. He made 10 field goals and went 9-for-12 from the charity stripe.

He was followed by Mason Dozier's 21-point performance. Dozier nailed three 3s and shot 4-of-6 from the line.

Rounding out the Bobcats' double-digit scorers were Tristan Johnson and Casey Crowden who score 12 and 10 points, respectively.

Risco didn't go down without a fight as Hayden Ludwig and Braison Jackson each eclipsed 20 points as well. Ludwig scored 23 and went 3-for-4 from the line while Jackson added 21 points, hitting five 3s.

Lack of production at the free throw line hurt the Tigers, who went 3-for 12 from the line as a team. In addition, two Risco players, Layden Kellum and Ludwig, fouled out.

Now, Delta (6-17) prepares for a Tuesday matchup with top-seeded Leopold which chases its first-ever district championship. The Bobcats dropped two previous contests to the Wildcats early in the season.
