Girls Tennis Roundup, Sept. 21: Poplar Bluff nets win over Charleston

The Poplar Bluff Mules picked up their first win of the season Tuesday, 6-3 at Charleston.

After taking two doubles matches, Poplar Bluff got an 8-5 win by Olivia Kirkman in the No. 2 singles match while Emma Sutton won 8-2 at No. 3. Elizabeth Ledbetter was an 8-0 winner while Kaitlyn Booker won her match 8-1.

Natalie Murphy lost her top-seeded singles match 8-0 while Amelia Mirza fell 8-3.

Murphy and Kirkman won the top-seeded doubles match 8-1 while Ledbetter and Booker were 8-6 winners. Sutton and Mirza fell short 8-5 in their doubles match.

The Mules (1-8) travel Wednesday to Sikeston before the SEMO Conference Tournament at Cape Central on Friday.

Cape Central 7, Saxony Lutheran 0

Saxony Lutheran traveled to Cape to play a dual match against Cape Central on Tuesday but lost by a score of 7-2.

The Crusaders were able to squeak out wins in singles action, as Abby Haley was able to beat Makenzie Ramiah 8-5, and Brynn Sprengel pulled out a 9-7 win over Rileigh Stevens.

It was Cape Central's (8-6-1) fifth win in a row and will play at 4 p.m. today against undefeated Kennett.

Saxony Lutheran (2-8) will be back in action at 4 p.m. on Thursday when the Crusaders travel to Kennett.

Notre Dame earned its 12th win on the season Tuesday by defeating Dexter 8-0 before the ninth, and final, match was rained out.

Notre Dame (12-3-1) and Dexter (7-5) will both take part in the SEMO Conference Tournament on Friday in Poplar Bluff.
