Softball Roundup, Sept. 14: Chaffee loses lead in seventh and lose to Twin Rivers

The Chaffee softball team clung to a 6-4 lead entering the bottom of the seventh inning on the road against Twin Rivers but was unable to hold the lead.

Red Devils pitcher Reese Van Pelt gave up the winning run to Royals second baseman Savannah Allen who drove in senior Jenny Casteel to beat the Chaffee in walk-off fashion Tuesday in Brosley, Mo., 7-6.

Chaffee starter Van Pelt could not hold the lead, allowing a leadoff single by Reese Crismon, followed by an RBI single by Whittany Williams that scored Crismon from third and Mika Williams from second base, tying the game at six runs apiece.

Van Pelt then allowed Allen's game-winning hit.

Van Pelt pitched the entire game, allowing seven runs on six hits, striking out nine and walking five, strapping the freshman hurler the loss.

Offensively, Van Pelt went 2-for-3 at the plate, scoring a run while driving in two runs to lead the team.

Chaffee (9-6) will host East Carter (8-4) at 4:30 p.m. Monday.
