Obergoenner, Giebler bounce back in final round of MGA Stroke Play Championships

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. — Todd Obergoenner bounced back from a rough morning round Thursday with an even-par 71 to finished tied for 24th at the 24th Missouri Stroke Play Championship.

The Cape Girardeau golfer shot 76 in his first round playing 36 holes on a hot day at Twin Oaks Country Club. He finished at 3-over 287 for the tournament.

Brevin Giebler of Cape Girardeau also finished with an even-par 71 to end up tied for 27th at 4-over 288.

Oran’s Adam Friga tied for 38th while Alex Wiseman of Poplar Bluff ended up 41st.

Jack Parker of Columbia won the title at 12-under 272 after starting the day with a one-shot lead. Following a 1-over 72 in the morning, Parker shot 67 to edge Peter Weaver of St. Louis, who was one of four players with all four rounds under par. First-round leader Christopher Ferris of St. Louis finished third at 9-under 275.

Obergoenner, who shot 67 in the second round to make the cut, had three birdies on the front 9 in the morning round but none on the back to go with nine pars in all. In the final round, he carded five birdies and eight pars and had a rollercoaster front 9 that featured a bogey-birdie-bogey-birdie-bogey-par stretch.

Giebler, who shot 69 in the second round, had a 3-over 74 round with 15 pars to start his day. He had six birdies during his final round that also featured six pars.

Friga, coming off a 69, shot 81 in the third round eight pars before a 75 final round that featured two birdies and 11 pars.

Wiseman’s morning round featured 11 pars but he started the back 9 by playing the first three holes 4-over. In the afternoon round, Wiseman had a birdie on the par-4 first hole as he did in the opening round, and another on the par-4 fifth. He played the front 9 even-par, three shots better than his morning round.

On the back 9, Wiseman had bogeys on three of the same holes as his previous round and one less par to finish two shots behind a group of three players tied at 38th including Friga.
