Baseball Roundup, April 15: Notre Dame falls to Gateway Legacy 5-1

Notre Dame fell behind early and weren’t able to make up the difference against Gateway Legacy, losing 5-1 on Wednesday.

Gateway Legacy took a 1-0 lead in the second inning, added another run in the fourth inning and opened the game completely with three runs in the seventh inning.

Blake Anderson, Jon Dohogne, and Noah Gadberry each knocked in a base hit for the Bulldogs.

Grant James took the loss for Notre Dame despite a strong four-inning outing, in which he allowed two runs on four hits with no walks and one strikeout. He also drew a walk and stole a base.

Will Dodson pitched 2.1 innings in relief, allowing three runs on six hits, no walks and a strikeout.

Mason Ahlvin got the last two outs of the game with two strikeouts. Mike Huston scored the only run for the Bulldogs in the seventh inning.

After winning six straight games, the Bulldogs dropped back-to-back games. Notre Dame will look to rebound against Kelly at home on Friday.

Chaffee 18, Dexter 5

Brennan Fowler drove in four runs to lead Chaffee to an 18-5 win over Dexter on Wednesday.

Fowler hit an RBI double in the fourth, an RBI single in the fifth, and an RBI double in the seventh.

Chaffee scored six runs in the sixth inning. Levi Crowe, Eli Glueck, Thomas Stidham, and Levi McKinnie all contributed in the big inning with RBI base hits.

Chaffee had 14 hits in the game. Fowler, Crowe, Peyton Atkins, and Glueck all managed multiple hits for the Red Devils, with Crowe and Fowler each plating three hits.

Riley Slusher and Kaufman each racked up multiple hits for Dexter. Slusher went 3-for-4 at the plate to lead Dexter in hits.

Jagger Sadler surrendered five runs on six hits over 5.1 innings with six strikeouts but still took the win for Chaffee. Glueck threw 1.2 innings in relief out of the bullpen.

Peyton Driskill took the loss for Dexter after going 3.2 innings, allowing five runs on five hits and striking out four.

DeSoto 20, Perryville 2

DeSoto dominated Perryville 20-2 on Wednesday.

DeSoto took the lead on a fielder's choice in the first inning and scored nine runs in the second inning to take total control of the game. DeSoto plated a total of 11 hits with Hunter Dill leading the way with a 3-for-3 performance at the plate.

Fischer threw three no-hit innings but gave up two runs and stuck out six. Krodinger toed the rubber in the fourth inning and struck out the side to end the game.

The Pirates scored two runs in the third inning after Mitchell Zoellner walked with the bases loaded and Dane Lauck drove in another run on a groundout.

Fischer Scheiter started the game for the Pirates and allowed 11 runs on six hits over two innings, striking out three. Grant Smith, Trey Scruggs contributed in relief for Perryville.
