Softball Roundup, Apr. 14: Delta wins slugfest with Oak Ridge, 11-9

The Delta Bobcats hosted the Oak Ridge Blue Jays Tuesday and a slugfest broke out, as Delta produced 16 hits, edging Oak Ridge by two hits, and also defeated the Blue Jays by two, 11-9.

Oak Ridge took the lead early, scoring six runs in the first inning, as Mary-Beth Jensen, Makayla Rangel, and Bailey Urhahn all singled, followed by a bases-clearing triple by Mae Masterson that scored three.

Delta came back to answer in the bottom of the first, plating two runs while adding another run in the second inning.

A lone, third-inning run by the Blue Jays made the score 7-3 heading into the fourth inning.

The Bobcat's bats were just getting warmed up, as three runs crossed the plate in the home half of the fifth, to pull Delta within one run.

They followed that with a five-run sixth inning, capped off by a Presley Holweg solo home run, to make the score 11-9.

Lacey Blattel closed the door on Oak Ridge in the top of the seventh to win the game for Delta, capturing their fourth victory of the season.

Blattel pitched 6 2/3 innings of relief, as Sadie Hornbuckle struggled on the mound in the first, only lasting 1/3 of an inning.

Blattel scattered nine hits while allowing three runs, striking out five, and walking three to earn the win.

Allison Seabaugh was on the downside of the pitching matchup, collecting the loss, throwing all six innings for the Blue Jays, allowing 11 runs on 16 hits, striking out four Bobcat batters, while walking two.

Offensively, Delta was lead by Addie Nichols, who went 4 for 4 in the game, as Nichols drove in two runs and scored a run.

Teriana Crowden would go 3 for 4 at the dish, driving in two RBIs while scoring three runs.

Holweg recorded a game-high three RBIs on three hits, one of those being a home run and one a triple.

Oak Ridge head coach Katie Trankle seen Rangel go 3 for 3 at the plate, scoring a run and also driving in a run in the loss.

Urhahn and Masterson also drove in two runs in defeat.

As a team, Delta stole 11 bases in the game, as Blattel stole three to lead the team, while Crowden and Nichols stole two each.

Delta's next game will be at the Puxico Tournament starting on Saturday.

Oak Ridge (2-5) will travel to Greenville Thursday in hopes of better results, with first pitch at 4:30 p.m.

Dexter 17, Charleston 2

The Dexter Bearcats won for the fourth time in five games, taking advantage of 18 walks issued by Charleston pitching in a 17-2 victory Tuesday at East Park in Dexter.

The Bearcats finished with only two hits: a first-inning single by Kennedy Bess and a third-inning single by Alexis Ingram.

Soma Hooper produced Charleston’s only hit with a second-inning double.

Amelia Jenkins was the winning pitcher, allowing two runs on one hit with nine strikeouts and seven walks in three innings.

Claire Nichols was charged with the loss.

Kinleigh Chappell, Kaylee Hazel and Alexis Ingram scored three runs apiece for the Bearcats, who improved to 4-5.

Charleston took a 2-0 lead after one-half inning before the Bearcats responded with six runs in the first, four in the second and seven in the third of a game called after three innings because of the 15-run mercy rule.

Advance 4, Bloomfield 2

The Advance softball team scored two runs in the sixth inning to beat Bloomfield 4-2 Tuesday at Bloomfield City Park.

Mikayla Mikels doubled home Kaylee Cline for the go-ahead run, and Mikels stole home for insurance.

The Hornets (10-3, 4-0 SCAA) led 1-0 after three innings and 2-1 after four, and the score was tied at 2 after five.

Annie Duffield picked up the victory, allowing two unearned runs on four hits with four strikeouts and two walks in seven innings.

Melanie Phillips was assessed the loss, giving up four runs — two earned — on four hits with 15 strikeouts and three walks in seven innings.

Mikels went 1 for 3 with a double and one RBI. Cline finished 1 for 3 with a double, and Madi Ford went 1 for 3 with a triple.

Bloomfield’s Karsynn Phillips went 2 for 4 with a double, and Melanie Phillips went 1 for 3 with a double.

Bloomfield fell to 4-4 and 1-3.

Greenville 12, Puxico 8

The Greenville Bears won despite committing six errors, beating Puxico 12-8 Tuesday at Greenville.

The Bears took a 9-0 lead after two innings and a 12-1 advantage into the fourth. Five of Puxico’s runs were unearned.

Laramie Blackburn picked up the win, allowing five runs — three earned — on six hits with eight strikeouts and five walks in 4 1/3 innings.

Gracey Wilkerson was charged with the loss. She gave up 12 runs — nine earned — on 12 hits with three strikeouts and five walks in six innings.

Brianna DeSpain went 4 for 4 with a triple, three runs scored and three RBIs to lead Greenville (4-2). Blackburn went 2 for 4 with a double and four RBIs. Kenzie Hill went 2 for 3 with a double, and Harlie Rainwater went 1 for 3 with a double.

Lizzie Kight went 3 for 4 with a two doubles and three RBIs, and Alivia Taylor went 3 for 4 for Puxico (1-6).

__East Carter County 12, Kennett 11

Undefeated East Carter County rallied past Kennett 12-11 in eight innings Tuesday.

Kennett led 2-0 after one inning, 5-1 after two innings, 5-3 after three innings, and 7-5 after four innings before East Carter County tied things up at 8-all by the end of the fifth inning and moved ahead 9-8 after six innings. Kennett went back up 11-9 when it scored three runs in the top of the seventh inning but East Carter County followed with two runs in the bottom of the seventh inning to tie things again at 11-all and scored another run in the bottom of the eight inning to secure a walkoff victory.

Kennett (9-4) plays a Dyersburg (Tenn.) Wednesday at 5:30 p.m.

East Carter County (7-0) is back in action Thursday at 4:30 p.m. when it visits Dexter.
