Boys Baseball Roundup, Apr. 9: Oran explodes for 16 runs in waxing of Scott City

The Oran offense exploded for a season-high 16 runs on Wednesday as the Eagles drilled 15 hits to shutout Scott City, 16-0.

Sophomore Kolton Payne led the show, going 3 for 4 at the plate, including a double that drove in a run in the first inning.

Payne also scored two runs.

Luke Peterson drove in three runs to lead the Eagles in RBIs.

Three other Oran hitters drove in two runs each (Ty Johnson, Nicholas Massey, and Brendan Campbell).

Three different pitchers helped the Eagles secure a no-hitter in the contest as well.

Starter Ty Johnson earned the win, throwing 2 2/3 innings of no-hit ball, striking out six of the eight batters faced, while walking one.

Carter Heuring came in and threw an inning and 1/3, allowing no hits, striking out three while issuing two free passes.

Payne closed the game out, throwing a hitless fifth inning, striking out the side, while issuing one base on balls.

Colin Blaylock recorded the loss for Scott City (6-3), throwing just one inning, giving up seven earned runs on seven hits.

All three relievers for the Rams gave up at least one earned run.

Oran (6-1) will look to keep the winning streak going as they travel to Woodland on Monday with game time at 4:30 p.m.

Scott City will look to rebound with a game against Kelly at Noon at Malden on Saturday.

The Rams will also play Malden Saturday in doubleheader action, with first pitch at 3 p.m.

Notre Dame 9, Dexter 2

The Notre Dame Bulldogs struck for five first-inning runs, and Dexter couldn’t recover in their 9-2 SEMO Conference victory, Wednesday.

Will Dodson and Conner Wissinger tallied two-out, two-run singles, and Blake Anderson scored on a wild pitch in the first inning for the Bulldogs, who improved to 7-2 overall and 2-0 in the conference.

Wissinger finished 2 for 3 with a homer and three RBIs, and Dodson went 2 for 3 with two RBIs. Austin Gast went 1 for 3 with a double.

The Bearcats fell to 2-5 and 1-2.

Grant Jones picked up the win, allowing one run on three hits with 13 strikeouts and two walks in five innings.

Adam Saylors was charged with the loss, yielding five runs on one hit with two strikeouts and two walks in two-thirds of an inning.

Peyton Driskill went 3 for 4 with two runs scored for the Bearcats. Kaeden Kennedy and Cole Nichols tallied two hits apiece, and Kennedy recorded his team’s only RBI.

Trailing 6-0, the Bearcats scored a run in the third. They added another in the seventh.

Notre Dame will host a doubleheader Saturday, taking on Timbeland at 11 a.m., then playing Charleston at 3:30 p.m.

Dexter will play Cape Central in Cape today, with first pitch at 4:30 p.m.

Saxony Lutheran 13, Delta 2

Tanner King went 2 for 2 at the plate Thursday, including a triple that scored three runs, and also walked, to lead Saxony Lutheran past Delta, 13-2.

The Crusaders pounded out nine hits, as King, Hunter Hamilton, and Eli Brown recorded two hits each, with King and Brown driving in three RBIs each.

Starting pitcher Wilson Lodge went six complete innings to record the win.

Lodge only allowed one earned run (2 total) on seven hits, striking out six without issuing a walk.

Delta starter Lawson Cox was on the losing end, pitching 4 2/3 innings, striking out just one, and walking five. He allowed eight earned on seven hits.

The Bobcats defense behind Cox didn't help either, committing five mishaps.

Ryan Glenzy led Delta with two hits at the dish, with five others adding a hit each.

Glenzy drove in the only RBI in the game, as the second run was on an error.

Saxony Lutheran (8-0) will try and keep their unbeaten streak intact as they host Jefferson (Festus) today at 4:30 p.m.

Delta (1-4) will travel to Chaffee Tuesday, with first pitch at 4:30 p.m.

Chaffee 7, Advance 1

The Chaffee Red Devils took advantage of four Advance errors and never trailed in a 7-1 victory Thursday at Cape Girardeau.

Only four of Chaffee’s runs were earned, and the Red Devils scored two runs in the first and one in the second to take a 3-0 lead. Advance scored its lone run in the third.

Brennan Fowler secured the win, allowing one run on three hits with eight strikeouts and three walks in four innings.

Hunter Tidwell was charged with the loss, yielding four runs — three earned — on five hits with four strikeouts and three walks in two innings.

Thomas Stidham went 1 for 4 with a double and one RBI for the Red Devils. Levi McKinnie went 2 f0r 4 with two RBIs. Jagger Sadler went 1 for 4 with a homer and two RBIs, and Alec Brown went 1 for 3 with a double.

Gus Garner went 2 for 3 with an RBI to lead Advance’s four-hit attack.
