Girls Softball Roundup, Mar. 23: Oran wins home opener against Scott City, 12-2

The Oran girls softball team won their home opener Monday, defeating Scott City, 12-2, as senior Alyssa Spane went 1 for 4 with a game-high four RBIs in the contest.

Spane hit a bases-clearing double in the bottom half of the fourth inning, scoring three Eagles, putting the Eagles up 8-1.

She later grounded out but reached on an error, scoring her fourth RBI of the game.

The first four hitters of the Oran lineup went 7 for 14 collectively in the game, as leadoff hitter Kennedi McVay had two hits and also scored three times, Molly Spane, the younger sister of Alyssa Spane, recording two hits, going 2 for 4, with four runs scored and an RBI, and Rylee Boshell going 2 for 3 with two runs scored and two RBIs, followed by the elder Spane and her four RBIs.

The Eagles (2-0) recorded 12 runs on seven hits while committing three errors.

Alyssa Spane also started on the mound for Oran and recorded the win, going six innings, giving up two runs on seven hits, striking out six, and walking no one.

For the Rams, it was their first game of the season, after their scheduled first game of the with Greenville was postponed.

Sophomore Olivia Ponder recorded two hits in three at-bats, also scoring a run.

Leadoff hitter Alyssa Dirden scored the other run for Scott City (0-1), going 1 for 3 in the game.

The Rams scored two runs on seven hits but committed four costly errors.

Freshman Mackenzie Lawless took the loss on the mound, throwing just 3 2/3 innings, giving up seven runs (four earned) on five hits, striking out three, and walking zero.

Dirden followed in relief but didn't fare much better, throwing just 1 2/3 innings, giving up five runs (two earned) on two hits, striking out two, and walking four.

Oran will host Bernie Thursday at 4:30 p.m. while Scott City will look for their first win of the season as they travel to Arcadia Valley today with first pitch at 4:30 p.m.

Advance 18, Woodland 8

The Advance girl's softball team won their season opener Monday with a commanding 10 run advantage, winning 18-8 in six innings over Woodland.

Freshman outfielder Kaylee Cline lead the offensive onslaught, going 4 for 5 with two doubles and a game-high six RBIs.

Sophomore Natalie Ford recorded two hits in four at-bats, driving in two runs, while Alandry Below went 1 for 3 in the game, driving in three RBIs and scoring three runs.

The Hornets (1-0) collected 12 hits as a team, but also committed five errors.

Woodland (0-1) got four RBI's from Lilley Long, as she went 1 for 4 in the game.

Sophomore Audrey Atchison recorded two hits in three plate appearances, also scoring two runs.

The Cardinals recorded eight hits in the contest and committed one error.

Annabelle Duffield earned the win on the mound for Advance, pitching six innings, giving up eight runs on eight hits, striking out four, and walking three.

Freshman Rhodie Long drew the loss for Woodland, pitching just one inning, allowing eight runs on five hits, striking out just one while walking four.

Older sister Lilley Long started the game, going just four innings while giving up seven runs.

Advance will host Charleston today at 4:30 p.m. while Woodland will travel to Bernie today to take on the Mules at 4:30 p.m.

Delta 17, Charleston 2

Delta won their second game of the young season Monday, dominating Charleston at home, 17-2, as the Bobcats scored 17 runs in the first three innings to win the game on the 10-run mercy rule.

Delta banged out five doubles in the game, as Presley Holweg recorded two of them, going 2 for 3 in the contest, driving in a run and scoring two.

Brooke Coomer also recorded two hits, while driving in four to lead the Bobcats in RBIs.

The Bobcats hammered out 11 hits in the three innings of action.

Sophomore hurler Sadie Hornbuckle pitched all three innings, striking out four and walking none, giving up just two runs on four hits, also recording the win.

Delta (2-0) will look to stay unbeaten on the season as they travel to Greenville today with first pitch at 4:30 p.m.

New Madrid County Central 20, Caruthersville 6

NEW MADRID, Mo. — The New Madrid County Central Lady Eagles used a 16-run fourth inning to ease its way to a 20-6 win over Caruthersville on Monday.

Junior Jimmya Caldwell-Newson went 3-for-4 with three runs and two RBIs, while sophomore Ellie Cravens and junior Joycelynne Jackson each added two hits as well. Cravens went 2-for-4 with two runs and one RBI, while Jackson went 2-for-3 with two runs and one RBI.

Senior Amari Robinson went 2-for-3 with one run and four RBIs, while sophomore Erica Tittle also went 2-for-3 with one run and four RBIs.

Collectively, the Lady Eagles added three doubles and three triples as a team.

On the mound, sophomore Carly Kimball threw four innings, giving up two hits, seven runs — three earned — walking four and fanning three.

NMCC (1-0) plays at Malden (2-1) on Thursday, at 4:30 p.m.
