Southeast Missouri State junior goalkeeper Bailey Redden

The Southeast Missouri State women’s soccer team started the 2021 season off with a victory Friday at Houck Field, beating Jacksonville St. 3-1.

Junior forward Lauren Welker got the scoring started for the Redhawks at the 1:17 mark of the first half, scoring on a pass from Lexie Hacker that sneaked by the Jacksonville St. goalie on the left side of the net.

SEMO scored what would be its second, and winning goal, of the game at the 44:12 mark of the first half by Kiana Khedoo.

She received a pass from Nadiia Ivanchenko and Khedoo deposited it to the left side of the Jacksonville St. goal for a 2-0 score heading into the second half.

The Redhawks (1-0-0, 1-0-0 Ohio Valley Conference) scored their third and final goal at the 71:02 mark of the second half on a chip shot by midfielder Kate Daus from 20 yards out that made it 3-1.

The Redhawks outshot the Gamecocks 12 to 9 in the contest.

SEMO goalkeeper Bailey Redden made five saves.

The Redhawks will travel to Belmont on Tuesday at 6:30 p.m.
