East Carter wins state cheer title among local teams honored by MCCA

East Carter won its division at the Missouri Cheerleading Coaches Association's state championships, it was announced Sunday, while the East Prairie and South Pemiscot squads were honored for their work during timeouts. 

Performances were submitted by video this year due to the COVID-19 pandemic.  

East Carter placed first in the 1A Small Squad division with Chaffee third, Clearwater sixth, Van Buren 10th and Charleston 11th.

East Carter's Kadence Reynolds (base), Cassidy Sullivan (backspot), Grace Epperson (flyer and jumps) and Jaci Douglas (jumps) earned all-state honors. Clearwater's Elizabeth England (flyer) was also named to the all-state squad with Charleston's Gracie Smith (tumbling).

Sikeston placed second in the 3A Small Squad division. Aubrey Wheeler (backspot) and Blair Durham (tumbling) were named to the all-state squad.

Holcomb placed fourth in the 1A Large Squad division while Kelly was fourth in the 2A Large Squad division.

Jackson placed third and Poplar Bluff fifth in the 5A Small Squad division. Liberty North and Truman took the top two spots with Marquette fourth.Jackson's Alli Akers (backspot), Mariyanna Carter (backspot), Ava Borgfield (flyer), Emma Lane (flyer), Lilly Edwards (jumps), Azlyn Titus (tumbling) and Lacey Drury (tumbling) earned all-state honors along with Poplar Bluff's McKenzie Cassie (tumbling) and Lanie Robertson (tumbling).

East Prairie won the 2A Timeout Award while South Pemiscot won the 1A award with Holcomb third and Senath-Hornersville fourth.
