'Polar Strut' coming to Cape

There will be a very noble reason for freezing on Saturday, as the Special Olympics Missouri will benefit from the First annual Polar Strut at Cape County Park North.

The Cape Girardeau Police Department and Cape County Parks will sponsor the 1-mile and 5K events with registration being held either today (3 to 6 p.m. at the Osage Center) or prior to the event (8 a.m. Saturday at the park).

All proceeds will benefit the Special Olympics and participants are encouraged to wear costumes and make trekking around the park a good time for all.

There is no age limit to participate.

Each participant is required to raise a minimum of $50 and all will receive a commemorative shirt.

Other awards (towel, backpack, Columbia jacket, and Visa gift card) are available for higher donations raised.

Participants can register in person or online at www.somo.org/plunge. Simply click on 2021 events and scroll down to Polar Bear Strut, then click on Cape Girardeau.

“The Golden Plunger” Award will be given to the participant with the most original costume.
