Sikeston Field House to host book launch
SIKESTON — First State Community Bank is presenting “A Historic Basketball Celebration” at the Sikeston Field House on Saturday, Feb. 13.
Showcasing authors Erwin and Chris Porter’s book “Bootheel Basketball: A Half-Century of Hoops Supremacy,” this event features coaches and players from the past.
“We are pleased to sponsor the book launch of ‘Bootheel Basketball: A Half-Century of Hoops Supremacy’ by Erwin Porter with Chris Porter and published by our local publisher,” said First State Community Bank president Matt Tanner in a press release. “High school basketball is part of the fabric which makes Southeast Missouri such a terrific place to live.
“During the basketball season, neighboring towns draw closer together for their common love of the sport, and it’s great to see that spirit brought to life through this publication.”
Free and open to the public, the launch features eight 500-plus win coaches along with star players, including former Poplar Bluff Mule, North Carolina Tar Heel, and NBA draft pick Tyler Hansbrough. An autograph session will also be at the event.
Through this event, Tanner hopes that it will draw surrounding communities closer while also making each one more successful.
