Girls Basketball Roundup, Jan. 9: King's 35 points lead Ellington to win

The Whippets edged Gateway Legacy 60-57 Saturday at the “Brownie” Smith Legends of the Hardwood Classic in Van Buren.

Kaylee King scored 35 points, including all but two of Ellington’s fourth-quarter points Saturday in Van Buren.

Dylan Price added 13 points and Ella Morton had 10 for Ellington, which trailed by a point entering the fourth quarter.

King sank all five of her foul shots, including three in the fourth when the sophomore sank two of her four 3-pointers in scoring 15 points.

The Whippets (7-3), who have won five straight, trailed 33-29 at halftime after the teams were tied at 14-all heading into the second quarter.

VAN BUREN 65, PUXICO 17

Katie Griffin scored 16 points and Kinsley Murphy added 15 to lead the Lady Dawgs to a win.

Lani Black and Paige Underwood each scored six points for Van Buren.

Puxico was led by six points from senior Kalysta Haynes.
