26th Riverbend Classic postponed due to rising COVID-19 cases
NEW MADRID, Mo. — Fans won't have the opportunity to attend the 26th Annual Riverbend Classic this year.
Due to a rising number of COVID-19 cases in Southeast Missouri, officials announced Friday, in a press release, to postpone the two-day event, with the hopes of playing it on a future date when the number of cases drops.
Nine games were scheduled over two days, with teams from Missouri and Tennessee slated to play.
Charleston and New Madrid County Central were supposed to play on both days. The Bluejays were supposed to play Ripley, Tenn., at 5 p.m. on Friday, and Memphis Day, Tenn., on Saturday, at 5 p.m.
NMCC and Memphis Day were supposed to play on Friday, at 6:30 p.m., while the Eagles would then turn around and play Normandy at 3:30 on Saturday.
The NMCC Lady Eagles were supposed to play against Hayti at 2 p.m. on Saturday, for the second-straight year.
Portageville was also on the schedule for Saturday as they were supposed to play Ripley at 11 a.m.
