Baseball Roundup, Sept. 25: Woodland takes advantage of miscues, wins at home over Leopold
Leopold errors proved costly as Woodland helped themselves, scoring two runs off those mistakes to win 6-1 Friday afternoon.
The Wildcats commited five errors in the game. But it wasn't just the errors that led to the loss.
10 Cardinals hits( three by Jo Cook, two each by Rafe Johnson and Seth Abernathy) helped the cause also.
Leadoff hitter Lane VanGinnip added a bases clearing triple as well, scoring three on the play.
VanGinnip earned the win on the hill, throwing 4 2/3 innings of two hit, one run ball.
He also struck out six and walked five.
Johnson finished out the game pitching 2 1/3, one hit baseball. He struck out four and walked three.
Leopold's lone run came from a Carson Cooper ground ball, as he reached base on an fielding error by Woodland first baseman Seth Abernathy. Hunter Ritter scored on the play.
Woodland (4-2) looks to keep the momentum going on Tuesday as they play East Carter away at 4:30 p.m.
Leopold (1-4) will play at Bernie on Monday at 4:30 p.m.
