Jackson's Welker out tonight vs. Sikeston

Semoball has learned Jackson Indians senior quarterback Cael Welker has been suspended for tonightís game at Sikeston due to a violation of team rules.

The nature of the infraction is not known and Indiansí athletic director John Martin was temporarily unavailable for comment.

Welker, a two-time All State quarterback, is helping to lead Jackson (4-0, 2-0 SEMO Conference North) to what the school hopes will be another crack at the MSHSAA Class 5 football title.

Jackson lost the 2019 Class 5 final December 7 to Carthage in overtime, 27-21.

Last week, Jackson crushed cross-county rival Cape Central, 63-0.

Welker led the team to a 50-nothing lead in the first half, supported by a stout Tribe defense, with backup signal caller Cameron Marchi taking over with 4:10 left in the second quarter.

Save for one drive to start the second half, Welker sat the rest of the way as Jackson cruised to victory.

Class 4 Sikeston (2-2) has lost two in a row, including Fridayís 30-9 defeat at home to Poplar Bluff.

Jackson, in its first four contests of 2020, has outscored its opponents, 223-34.
