Notre Dame sweeps Semoball.com honors

It was a good week for Notre Dame athletes both on AND off the field, as a pair of Bulldogs earned success in their athletic quests, as well as proved to be popular with Southeast Missouri fans.

Notre Dame cross country runner Haley Smith and soccer player Connor Westrich each earned the top votes in the latest Semoball.com Athlete of the Week voting in the female and male categories, respectively.

Of the 1,673 total votes cast, Smith grabbed 414 votes, while Westrich had 199.

Smith won the recent varsity 5,000-meter race at the Cape Central Cross Country Invitational. The senior beat out 42 runners in a time of 19:51.22.

Westrich is the Bulldogs’ goalkeeper and held a good Saxony Lutheran team to just one goal in the Bulldogs' recent 2-1 win over the Crusaders. He has helped Notre Dame to a perfect 5-0 start and allowed just two goals this season.

Other female nominees included: Emma-Claire Self (Sikeston volleyball), Chloe Thurmon (Dexter volleyball), Emma Thurman (Twin Rivers volleyball), and Paige Davis (Leopold volleyball).

Other male nominees included: Ty Johnson (Oran baseball), Tyler Davis (Advance baseball), Jaden Deaton (Poplar Bluff cross country), and Blake Fowler (Campbell baseball).
