Volleyball Roundup, Sept. 17: Addie Johnson leads Woodland past Zalma, 3-0
It was the hot hand of Addie Johnson that led the way for Woodland to win rather easily over a scrappy Zalma team Thursday night 25-8, 25-6, and 25-8.
Johnson finished the game with 10 kills, eight digs, and three serve aces.
Emma Brown recorded eight kills, nine digs, three aces, and three blocks in the well-balanced attack for the Cardinals.
Caroline Rhodes had five kills, four aces, and three assists.
Kaitlyn Zajicek recorded 16 assists.
Ally Whitener added 13 assists and four digs.
Riley Massa finished with six kills and recorded three blocks.
Woodland(3-3-2) will play Dexter at home Monday night.
Zalma(0-5) has a home contest against Charleston at 7:30 p.m.
Kennett 3, Portageville 0
Kennett 3, Portageville 0
Kennett closed out its week on a high note by beating Portageville 25-14, 25-15, 25-23 Thursday night.
Kennett also won the junior varsity contest against Portageville 22-25, 25-21, 15-9.
Kennett (9-3-1) travels to nearby rival Holcomb Monday for a 5 p.m. contest.
Portageville (4-7-1) hosts Twin Rivers Monday at 5 p.m.
Valle Catholic 3, Saxony Lutheran 0
In a closely contested game held at Valle Catholic, it was the home team pulling on the win over Saxony Lutheran, winning in straight sets 25-23, 25-15, and 25-16.
Saxony Lutheran Head coach Emily Wahlers said of her team, "Every time we play we seem to improve on an aspect of the game. I am very proud of their determination and hard work tonight."
She also stated, "When we get everyone back we will be able to make more improvements."
The Saxony Lutheran junior varsity also lost in three sets, 25-19, 19-25, 21-25
Saxony Lutheran(2-5-2) will host Oak Ridge on monday at 7:30 p.m.
Holcomb 3, Cooter 0
Holcomb disposed of Cooter in straight sets 25-9, 25-15, 25-18 Thursday.
Holcomb (5-1) hosts Kennett Monday at 5 p.m.
Cooter (1-3) hosts Hayti Monday at 5 p.m.
Twin Rivers 3, Malden 2
Twin Rivers won a see-saw battle with Malden 23-25, 25-20, 14-25, 25-18, 16-14 Thursday.
Its was the Royals third five-set win of the week. Twin Rivers also beat Clarkton in five sets Monday and Holcomb in five sets Tuesday.
Twin Rivers (8-2-2) visits Portageville Monday at 5 p.m.
Malden (6-7-1) hosts Oran Monday at 5 p.m.
