Softball Roundup, Sept. 17: 4-Hit day for Turk(s) earns a Cape Central win over North County
It wasn’t just one Turk that did all the damage in a 18-7 rout of North County Thursday afternoon in Bonne Terre; it was two!
Clean-up hitter Kayleigh Turk came up big for the Tigers, recording four hits in four at-bats, accumulating an double and three RBI singles. She also scored four times.
Not to be out-done, sister Elizabeth Turk also recorded four hits. She also scored three times.
In all, the Cape Central lineup totaled 24 hits…
Catie Davis – 2 hits, plus scored twice
Brooke Witvoet – 4 hits, plus scored four times
Valerie Greenley – 2 hits, also homered and drove in two RBI
K. Turk – 4 hits
E. Turk – 4 hits
Keri Williams – 2 hits, plus scored a run and drove in a run
Ki Bogan – 2 hits, also scored a run and drove in a run
Lauren Hamby – 1 hit, plus drove in four RBI
Alexis Trickey – 2 hits, also scored a run
Karissa Robinson, a pinch hitter for the Tigers, also recorded a hit.
Greenley recorded the win on the mound, throwing all seven innings, allowing seven runs on 12 hits.
She also struck out four and walked one.
The win improves Cape Central’s record to 7-6 as the Tigers will entertain Farmington Tuesday at 4:30 p.m.
Perryville 24, Jefferson 8
The Perryville softball team erupted for 24 runs, including nine doubles, in a lop-sided victory over Jefferson Thursday .
The Pirates struck early, scoring six runs in the first inning, two more in the second, and three in the third.
After one lone run was scored in the fourth, the proverbial lid was ripped off the can after that.
Perryville scored three more runs in the fifth frame and then nine more in the sixth.
The top five hitters in the lineup for the Pirates accumulated 16 hits, including Brooke Huber’s four doubles, Brittanie Stewart’s two doubles, and leadoff hitter Ann-Marie Simpson’s four hits.
Simpson also scored three runs and drove in three more runs.
Stewart drove in four RBI, Huber added three RBI, and four other Perryville hitters drove in two RBI’s each.
The Pirates(6-2) will travel to Fredericktown Monday and play at 4:30 p.m.
