Jackson gets strong outing from Eli Brown, sets up BIG showdown
One day after opening the Senior Babe Ruth State Tournament with an 11-1 rout of Festus 17-under, the Jackson Tribe rode its pitching to a 2-1 victory over Potosi on Thursday at Hillhouse Park in Charleston.
The win sets up a challenging match-up with the host Charleston Fighting Squirrels on Saturday at 12:30 p.m.
Tribe thrower Eli Brown was sensational against Potosi, as he allowed just two hits and no runs in acomplete game win.
He struck out two and walked three in throwing an efficient 90 pitches over seven innings.
Saxony Lutheran school player Hunter Bilek reached base in the opening inning on a walk before Mason Lewis brought the speedster home with an RBI single to left field for an early Jackson lead.
Potosi tied the game in the second inning, but Jackson added the eventual winning run in the fourth.
Saxony athlete Tanner King, who was the winning pitcher against Festus on Wednesday, reached on a single to right field.
With two outs, Seth Spraggs lined a Potosi pitch into left field to score King.
King paced the Tribe offense with a pair of hits, while Cecil Abernathy, Lewis, and Spraggs added hits.
Abernathy and Spraggs each had doubles for Jackson, which drew four walks, a pair by Bilek, one each by Brown and Austin Buck.
Volton took the loss for Potosi.
He allowed five hits and two runs over seven innings, striking out five.
