Dexter sending multiple athletes to SEMO Conference senior-only events

Dexter High School spring sports coaches expect up to 11 athletes to compete in various events the SEMO Conference is holding for recently graduated seniors.

Senior-only events in baseball, boys golf, boys tennis and track and field are set for next week. They were scheduled after the spring sports seasons were canceled because of the COVID-19 pandemic.

On Monday, baseball players from the conference will play at Capaha Field in Cape Girardeau. Dexter and Jackson players will team to form one of four teams who will play two five-innings games beginning at 1 p.m.

Dexter-Jackson will face a team of players from New Madrid County Central and Notre Dame at 5 p.m. and a squad of Kennett and Poplar Bluff players at 7 p.m.

Seniors and their parents will be recognized prior to the 7 p.m. matchup.

Dexter baseball coach Drew Pixley said Garrett Henson, Haden Hillis and Mason Keena have committed to play.

A senior-only boys tennis tournament will be Tuesday at Notre Dame High School in Cape Girardeau with the first matches set to begin at 9 a.m.

Dexter coach Eric Boles expects Eric Allen and Logan Wyman to participate.

A track and field meet is set to begin at 8 a.m. July 8 at Notre Dame. The meet will feature only individual events and no relays, according to the Delta Dunklin Democrat.

Dexter track coach Kim Waldner said Cole Barker and Alexa Werneck are set to participate, and Austin Guy will compete if the coaching staff at Missouri S&T, where he has signed to play football, OKs it.

Dexter golf coach Eric Sitze expects Matt Agey, Luke Becker and Spencer Warren to compete in the senior-only golf tournament July 9 at Fox Haven Country Club in Sikeston.

The tournament is scheduled to tee off at 9 a.m.
