Henson pitches no-hitter, Spartans rout East Prairie 10-0

Garrett Henson pitched a no-hitter, and the SEMO Spartans 19-and-under baseball team secured its first win of the season, beating East Prairie 10-0 Thursday night at East Park.

The 2020 Dexter High School graduate struck out 11 and walked two in five innings when the game was called because of the mercy rule. He faced only two batters over the minimum and no East Prairie player reached second base.

The Spartans scored the only run they needed in the second inning. Gage McNeil singled with no outs and scored on a two-out single by Camden Riley.

The Spartans added a run in the third and scored four runs in the fourth and fifth innings.

Riley finished 2 for 2 with one RBI and one run scored, McNeil went 2 for 3 with a double, one RBI and three runs scored, and Haden Hillis went 1 for 1 with two RBIs and one run scored.

The Spartans (1-0-1) opened the season with a tie against the Charleston 18-and-under Fighting Squirrels. The game was tied at 9 in the sixth inning when the game was called because of an 11 p.m. curfew.

Their next two games were rained out.
