SENIOR RECOGNITION -- SPECIAL EDITION: Saxony Lutheran baseball seniors reflect on careers with Crusaders

With the cancellation of spring athletics for the 2020 season, seniors in the Standard-Democrat coverage area cannot have final moments with their teammates.

Below is a special edition of the “Senior Recognition” series, featuring senior athletes, where they are going next, what they loved most about playing their respective sport at their school, and more.

This special edition features the Saxony Lutheran baseball team. The Crusaders had eight seniors on the roster.

Plans after high school… Attending Kaskaskia College in Centralia, Ill., for the first two years, and then hopes to transfer to a four-year college or university. He is playing on the baseball team at Kaskaskia.

Advice for underclassmen… “Play every game like it’s your last because you never know what can happen.”

Favorite baseball memory… “My favorite memory was the whole playoffs last year. Especially when I hit for the cycle in the sectional game.”

What got you interested in baseball… “When I was four-years-old, I would watch it on TV all the time, and when I played tee-ball, I fell I love with the game.”

Plans after high school… Hopes to play baseball in college

Advice for underclassmen… “I advise underclassmen to hit in the cage and get a throwing partner.”

Favorite baseball memory… “My favorite baseball memory is pitching in the third-place game.”

What got you interested in baseball… “My dad got me interested in baseball because he played in college, and ever since then, I’ve loved it.”

Plans after high school… “Attending Truman State University in Kirksville, Mo., and majoring in law.

Advice for underclassmen… “My advice to underclassmen is to enjoy every second they’re in high school because they never know when it might end.”

Favorite baseball memory… “My favorite baseball memory is winning sectionals at Malden in the 11th inning.”

What got you interested in baseball… “The reason I started playing baseball is because of my dad. He’s the one who introduced me to it and is the reason I love the game.”

What got you interested in baseball… “Watching the St. Louis Cardinals with my dad.”

Favorite baseball memory… “When Landon Hall was batting, and he got hit in the chest.”

What got you interested in baseball… “Ever since I was a little kid, I’ve loved baseball. I’ve always worked hard to keep getting better and never wanted to quit playing.”
