SENIOR RECOGNITION: Oran track and field quartet reflect on careers with Eagles

With the cancellation of spring athletics for the 2020 season, seniors in the Standard-Democrat coverage are not able to have final moments with their teammates.

Below is the eighth part of a series of stories on recognizing senior athletes, where they are going next, what they loved most about playing their respective sport at their school, and more.

The series continues with the Oran track and field team. The Eagles had four seniors on the roster.

Other sports, activities, and clubs… Played on the girls’ basketball team and the volleyball team; FCA, Student Council, FCCLA, Beta Club

Plans after high school… Attending Southeast Missouri State University in Cape Girardeau, Mo., and majoring in nursing.

Advice for underclassmen… “Strive for the best and nothing less!”

Favorite track memory… “Just track, in general, is the best memory. I met so many people throughout. With track, everyone encourages you no matter where you were or what school you went to, and I just loved that.”

What got you interested in track… “I love to run.”

Other sports, activities, and clubs… Played on the girls’ basketball team, the volleyball team, and the softball team; FBLA, FCCLA, FCA, Beta Club.

Plans after high school… Attending the University of Kentucky in Lexington, Ky., and majoring in biology.

Advice for underclassmen… “Don’t take advantage of the opportunities that you’re given. You never know where they can take you.”

Favorite track memory… “The bus ride home after every meet.”

What got you interested in track… “I wanted to try something new.”

Plans after high school… Going to college and majoring in pre-med.

Advice for underclassmen… “Don’t let people bring you down and not allow you to enjoy high school because you only get to live through it once, so make the best out of it.”

Favorite track memory… “Being able to get to districts with the team and coming out with a district champion medal in the high jump with a personal record (PR) of 6-1.”

What got you interested in track… “I took track camps when I was younger, which led me to the point of doing it, so after my freshman year of playing baseball, I just wanted to try something new.”

Plans after high school… Attending Mississippi State University in Starkville, Miss., and majoring in mechanical engineering.

Advice for underclassmen… “In the end, it’s not the years in your life that count. It’s the life in the years.”

Favorite track memory… “Savannah Below, forgetting her shoes at districts her sophomore year.”

What got you interested in track… “I am fast and wanted to try something new.”
