Cooter, Ellington, Chaffee, Saxony Lutheran, Sikeston, and South Pemiscot ranked in preseason state baseball rankings

The preseason Missouri high school baseball state rankings were released Wednesday by the Missouri High School Baseball Coaches Association.

Six baseball teams from the coverage area are state-ranked.

Cooter, which placed third in Class 1 last spring and finished 22-1 in its fall campaign, is ranked No. 2 in Class 1. Defending state champion St. Elizabeth, which beat Cooter 6-1 in a state semifinal last spring, is ranked No. 1 in Class 1. Dora, which was the only team to hand Cooter a loss in fall baseball season, is ranked No. 3 in Class 1.

Defending Class 2 state champion Ellington, which finished 29-1 last spring, is ranked No. 7 in Class 2. Chaffee, which fell to Ellington 4-2 in a Class 2 quarterfinal last spring, is ranked No. 9 in Class 2. South Pemiscot, which went 16-3 in the fall and won the Fall Baseball Classic, is tied for No. 10 in Class 2 with Seymour.

Saxony Lutheran, which finished 23-4 and placed third in Class 3 last spring, is ranked No. 5 in Class 3.

Sikeston, which finished 16-8 and advanced to Class 4 state quarterfinals last season before falling to No. 1 ranked St. Francis Borgia 9-6, is ranked No. 6 in Class 4.

Four other schools from the coverage area received votes. Oran and Portageville received votes in Class 2. Kennett and Cape Notre Dame received votes in Class 4.
