In each team's final game of the regular season, it was Sikeston capping off a 14-win campaign with a 49-47 home victory over Jackson in recent girl's high school basketball action.
The Indians would get off to a fast start, outscoring the opposition 14-8 to end the first period and lead going into the intermission by eight. However, the Bulldogs would control the second half, outscoring Jackson in the final 16 minutes 30-20 to pull out the narrow win.
Sikeston (14-10) was led in scoring by senior guard Taydrianna Barnett, who would set the tone early in the second half, driving the ball to the basket, finishing with a game-high 24 points. She also had help from sophomore Karris Allen, who pitched in 14 points.
Jackson (13-12) was paced by Madison Lambert, who finished with 16 points. Also in double figures for the Indians was Piper Williams, who pitched in 10 points.
Sikeston will start its Class 4, District 1 quest against Dexter today at 12:30 p.m. at Notre Dame High School.
Jackson will play Seckman at Poplar Bluff in the first round of the Class 5 District 1 tournament at 7:30 p.m. on Monday.
