Southland forward Will Tomblin scores 1,000th career point in win against Marquand-Zion

Southland senior Will Tomblin (pictured) scored the 1,000th point of his varsity boys basketball career in a game against Marquand-Zion Saturday at Libla Sports Complex in Poplar Bluff.

POPLAR BLUFF, Mo. - Southland standout Will Tomblin achieved another milestone in his high school basketball career Saturday.

The senior post player scored the 1,000th point of his varsity basketball career as Southland beat Marquand-Zion 74-40 in a contest at Libla Family Sports Complex in Poplar Bluff.

Marquand-Zion (0-22) and Southland (6-15) were tied at 20-all after one quarter. Southland won the second quarter 18-4 to move ahead 38-24 by halftime and won the second half by 20 points.

Tomblin, who entered the game seven points shy of 1,000, scored a team-high 26 points to increase his career total to 1,019 points. Tomblin hit 11 2-point baskets against Marquand.

Southland point guard Cyrus Luke hit three of his teamís five treys. Luke finished with 16 points.

Jamar Edwards and Hunter Wynns also scored in double digits for Southland with 12 points each.

Coy Bailey paced Marquand-Zion with 19 points. Tim Clippard added a dozen more points. Both players hit a pair of 3-pointers for Marquand Zion.

Southland is back in action Monday when it travels to Cooter.

Marquand-Zion visits Meadow Heights Tuesday.
