Poplar Bluff Mules baseball program hosts Home Run Derby
The Poplar Bluff baseball team will be hitting the road this spring with trips to Kansas and either side of Missouri. To help with travel costs, the Mules will be hosting a Home Run Derby at Bobby Strenfel Field on Saturday, March 14.
There will also be a Fungo Golf Tournament starting at 7:30 a.m. before the 10 a.m. start of the derby.
Hitters will compete by age groups in a bracket-style tournament that will feature three rounds. Each hitter will have three minutes to hit or until they get 10 outs against a machine or live pitcher. The top six hitters will advance to the second round with the count starting over and the top 3 then advancing to the final round.
The champion and runner-up will win prizes.
The outfield will feature fences at various distances for hitters to clear based on their age.
Hitters age 8-11 will start at 10 a.m. and cost $30 while ages 12-14 start at noon and cost $45. At 2:30 p.m., hitters ages 15-18 will compete at a cost of $50 while anyone 19 and older can enter for $75 and hit after 4:30 p.m.
Each hitter will also be able to choose their own music to play while hitting. The number of hitters is limited for each division and the event will only reschedule once due to weather (March 28).
All funds will be donated to the Poplar Bluff Mules baseball program.
The Fungo Golf Tournament costs $20 per player with the champion receiving a prize.
