Gideon, Risco, Cooter, & Clarkton reach semifinals of Tri-County Conference varsity boys basketball tournament

CLARKTON, Mo. - The semifinals are set at the Tri-County Conference varsity boys basketball tournament after the top four seeds collected quarterfinal wins.

No. 3 seeded Cooter (11-7) will take on No. 2 seeded Risco (12-9) Tuesday at 6 p.m. and No. 1 seeded Gideon (18-4) will take on No. 4 seeded Clarkton (10-11) Thursday at 7:30 p.m. Both semifinals are slated to take place at Clarkton High School.

Winners will square off in the championship Friday at 7:30 p.m. at Clarkton.

Risco has won the varsity tournament each of the last three seasons.

Gideon, which went 7-0 in Tri-County Conference play on its way to the regular-season conference title, has won its last 13 games.

No. 2 Risco 82, No. 7 Delta C-7 48

A trio of Tigers netted twenty or more points each as Risco (12-9) cruised to victory over in Delta (4-14) in the Tri County Conference Tournament on Monday. Kamron Meese tallied three from behind the arc as part of a game-high twenty-five points. He and Andrew Rodgers accounted for twenty-two of Risco’s two dozen third-quarter points. Delta was led by Thomas Watson’s sixteen which included four from downtown.

In Monday’s Tri-County Tournament action at Clarkton, Cooter (11-7) jumped out to an eight-point first quarter lead and held off a competitive Southland (5-16) unit. Long-range shooting was in evidence in the high scoring contest as the victorious Wildcats rang up fourteen treys—a dozen by senior Jacob Watkins as part of a 51-point performance. The Rebels countered with ten triples including five by their scoring leader Cyrus Luke who netted twenty-four points.

No. 1 Gideon 94, No. 8 North Pemiscot 26

Top-seeded Gideon (18-4) easily took the measure of North Pemiscot (0-20) in a quarterfinal game of the Tri-County Tournament played at Clarkton on Tuesday. The contest was never in doubt as the Bulldogs had the game in total command by the end of the opening period. Samuel Williams paced the victors with twenty-four points and was aided by three teammates scoring in double figures. Lonnie Glass put up twelve for the Mustangs who still seek that elusive first win of the season.

Clarkton (10-11) advanced to the semifinals of the Tri-County Tournament with a win over Holcomb (5-15). The Reindeer stretched a five-point halftime advantage to twelve entering the fourth quarter then matched the Hornets’ with sixteen markers the rest of the way.

A freshman for each team highlighted play. Owen Morgan cashed all four of Clarkton’s triples. Dylan Bradshaw took scoring honors with twenty points for Holcomb.
