MULES RECAP: Poplar Bluff swimmers sweep meet, wrestling team closes out regular season 13-2

FARMINGTON, Mo. — The Poplar Bluff swim team won every event Thursday for a 190-78 win over host Farmington as the Mules prepared for the SEMO Conference meet next week.

Olivia Kirkman won a pair of races while Jessica Rush, Kacey Gregory, Audrey Rahlmann, Gabrielle Fortner, Carly Wiseman and Julia Smothers also earned wins for the Mules.

Gregory, Simone Anders, Smothers and Olivia Kirkman won the 200-yard medley relay by nearly 12 seconds as Poplar Bluff also finished second. Anders, Fortner, Rahlmann and Wiseman won the 200-freestyle relay by 4.17 seconds.

The Mules took the top three spots in the 400-freestyle relay with Haven Phelps, Bethany Leighty, Rahlmann and Bethany Leighty winning.

Kirkman won the 100 freestyle and 100 backstroke events while Rush won the 200 freestyle and was second in the butterfly. Gregory won the 200-individual medley and was second in the backstroke.

Rahlmann won the 50 freestyle in 28.42 seconds while Wiseman won the 500 in 6:39.

Smothers dropped 12.7 seconds from her previous-best time in winning the breaststroke and Fortner won the butterfly.

Haven Phelps dropped 8.29 seconds in the 200 freestyle, placing second and was fourth in the butterfly. Audrey Cisne placed second in the 100 freestyle, Austynn Dover was second in the IM, Emryn Smith placed second in the 500 while Casey Browning was second in the breaststroke.

Savannah Hicks finished third in the 200 freestyle while Morghyn McCain was third in the 50 and 100 freestyle events.

The SEMO Conference championship meet will be Tuesday in Cape Girardeau, Missouri.


The Mules closed the regular season 13-2 in duals with a 49-24 win at Dexter on Thursday night.

Poplar Bluff won the last four matches and finished with seven pins and two decision wins.

Gavin Hicks got a pin at 3 minutes, 5 seconds at 113 pounds, Lucas Robertson also got a pin at 132. Quinten Bell earned a 13-6 win at 138 pounds while Riley Sater won 10-2 after moving up a weight division to fill in for a sick starter.

Seth Barris earned a pin at 3:02, Austin Stoner's came at 1:04 while Desmond Howell got a pin at 3:07 before Jonathan Martin's pin in 48 seconds at heavyweight, also filling in for a sick teammate.

Travis Waldner earned a technical fall for the Bearcats while Dexter's Cutter Cornett won 19-5. Mason Keena earned a pin at 3:07 while Bryson Pemberton got one in 2:19.
