Dexter girls basketball coach pleased with effort in 48-44 loss to Doniphan
The Doniphan girls basketball team outscored the Dexter Bearcats 18-3 from the free throw line, including going 6 for 6 in the fourth quarter, to win 48-44 Monday night at Doniphan.
“The girls gave great effort tonight,” Dexter coach Eric Sitze said. “Doniphan won it on the free throw line but I’m very proud of how our girls competed for four quarters against a very good team.
“We’ve been telling them all year if the effort improves we can be competitive. Hopefully, this will give us some confidence down the stretch.
The two teams met previously in the Twin Rivers Lady Royals Classic, with the Donettes winning 54-24.
Doniphan (13-5) led 26-13 at halftime. However during the second half, the Bearcats (3-14) outscored the Donettes 31-22.
Sydney Asberry scored a game-high 16 points for Dexter.
Adyson Jones made a 3-pointer within her 13 points to lead Doniphan.
