SD ROUNDUP: McClain, Jansen help Kelly defeat Chaffee; Charleston blows by Scott County Central

BENTON, Mo. — Kelly outscored Chaffee by 20 points, 26-6, in the third quarter to push its lead even further on Friday night at Thomas W. Kelly High School.

Joel McClain led the charge, scoring nine of his 17 points in the frame. He tied Gavin Jansen for most points on the team as well.

Devin Heuring had 15 points for the Hawks, while Drew Dirnberger had 10.

Wyatt Parker led Chaffee with 16 points and was the only Red Devil to reach double-figures in scoring.

Charleston 114, Scott County Central 60

CHARLESTON, Mo. — Charleston had no problem beating Scott County Central on Friday night.

The Bluejays stormed out to a 36-10 lead after the first quarter and led 61-24 at halftime, en route to a 114-60 win over the Braves at Charleston High School.

Five different Bluejays reached double-figures in scoring.

Sam Bledsoe led the team with 24. Blessin Kimble had 19, while Terridean Bogan had 17.

Isaiah Gillespie finished with 11, while Rico Coleman had 10.

Bralyn Porter led all scorers with 25 for the Braves. Keshawn Sanders added 15 as well.

Portageville 33, South Pemiscot 32

STEELE, Mo. — Brendan Garmon finished Friday night’s game against South Pemiscot with four points, none bigger than the last bucket, which won the game for the Portageville boys basketball team.

Garmon made both of his baskets in the second half, as Portageville defeated South Pemiscot 33-32.

Kelan Bills was the only double-figure scorer for Portageville, with 14.

Khalal Rogers scored 15 for South Pemiscot.

CARUTHERSVILLE, Mo. — Billy Cobb led the Caruthersville boys basketball team to a win over East Prairie on Friday night.

Cobb had 21 points, while Devin Russell and Micah Rodgers each had 14.

Harrison Moore led East Prairie with 17 points, while Evan Howell had 16 and Jase Aycock 12.

Scott County Central 59, Charleston 48

CHARLESTON, Mo. — Trailing by five points after one quarter, the Scott County Central girls basketball team made sure not to let a let-down occur on Friday night against Charleston.

Rita Meeker led the Bravettes, with 18 points, on 8 of 10 shooting. She also grabbed seven rebounds.

Samantha Coffee had another double-double, finishing with 13 points, on 4 of 16 shooting, and 11 rebounds.

Bre’asia Jones had 12 points, on 4 of 15 shooting, five rebounds, five assists, and three steals, while Micah Adams rounded out the double-digit scorers for the Bravettes, with 16 points, on 7 of 12 shooting, and a pair of rebounds.

Ashanti Jones led the Lady Bluejays with 22 points. Mistavia Murray had 12 points, while Danisha Jackson finished with 10.
