STATESMAN ROUNDUP: Bloomfield girls basketball can't overcome slow start, loses 33-26 to Caruthersville
Adison Musgrave scored season-high 15 points, but the Bloomfield girls basketball team couldn’t overcome a slow start in its 33-26 loss to Caruthersville on Monday night at Bloomfield High School.
Musgrave scored 13 of her 15 points after halftime, posting the highest single-game total of any Bloomfield player this season.
Caruthersville (5-4) took an 11-2 lead after one quarter, but the Wildcats (0-9) outscored the visitor 24-22 the rest of the way.
Caruthersville led 15-11 at halftime and 22-16 after three quarters.
Keara Johnson paced Caruthersville with 14 points.
Oak Ridge 42, Puxico 29
The Puxico girls basketball team scored a season-high 29 points in its 42-29 loss to Oak Ridge on Monday night at Puxico.
“The girls are getting better every game and they are starting to learn how to play the game correctly,” Puxico coach Jim Carrier said. “It’s exciting to watch them figure it out.”
With the score tied at 8 after one quarter, Oak Ridge, a first-year varsity program, outscored the Indians 11-2 to take a 19-10 halftime lead.
Oak Ridge (2-7) extended its advantage to 33-17 by the start of the final quarter.
Paige Glueck scored four of her game-high 18 points in the fourth quarter, and Abby Morrison had six of her 15 in the final frame.
Alivia Taylor paced Puxico (0-8) with 10 points, giving her three straight double-figure performances.
Puxico 70, Zalma 35
The Puxico boys basketball team won for the second time in three games, beating Zalma 70-35 Monday night at Puxico High School.
The Indians shot out to an 18-8 lead after one quarter and held Zalma scoreless in the second to take a 32-8 halftime lead.
Puxico (4-8) took a commanding 50-24 lead into the final quarter.
Ethan Helm led a balanced Puxico attack with 21 points. Dalton Andrews and Lucas Plunkett added 14 each.
Nate Ware paced Zalma (2-9) with 13 points.
Meadow Heights 55, Bloomfield 48
The Meadow Heights boys basketball team outscored the Bloomfield Wildcats 24-17 in the second half of a 55-48 victory Monday night at Patton.
The Panthers took an 18-14 lead after one quarter but Bloomfield rallied to tie the score at 31 at halftime. They were ahead 43-40 after three quarters.
Brandon Wright paced Bloomfield (1-9) with a season-high 16 points, Jamison Dodd had 13 and Gage McNeil 11.
Barks led Meadow Heights (5-7) with 16 points, including four 3-pointers.
