Tied at 66 in the final minute of overtime, Oak Ridge forced Meadow Heights into four turnovers throughout the remainder of the game, as well as grabbed a pair of offensive boards to pull away for a 72-68 win in the consolation semifinal of the Delta New Year’s Tournament on Tuesday.

The Blue Jays (1-5) earned their first victory of the season and move on to face Advance (7-4) in the consolation final at 4:30 p.m. Thursday.

With the game tied, Oak Ridge freshman Bailey Brewer jumped a passing lane and forced a Panther turnover. Fellow Blue Jay freshman Abby Morrison drove baseline with 44 seconds left and drew a foul, but missed both free throws. However, the second miss got tipped back to Morrison, who hauled it in and banked it in from 13 feet out for a 68-66 Oak Ridge advantage.

The Oak Ridge pressure defense then forced another Meadow Heights (2-6) mistake at midcourt.

Morrison missed a jumper in the short corner, but Blue Jay freshman Mia Freese grabbed the rebound and scored for a 70-66 lead.

Brewer sealed the win with a steal and layin off the ensuing rebound, while Meadow Heights freshman Miranda Green hit a shot at the buzzer for the final margin.

The win culminated a wild night for Oak Ridge, which fell behind 17-7 after one quarter and trailed 39-25 at the intermission.

Oak Ridge rallied in the second half to trim its deficit to 51-44 entering the third quarter before tying it at 60 to force overtime.

Panther junior Gracie Cook led her team with 21 points, while Ashley Gruenke, Green and Kylee Denman each scored 12 in the loss.

Oak Ridge sophomore Paige Glueck led the winners with 24 points, while Morrison chipped in 14 and Mae Masterson and Allison Seabaugh added nine each.
