Scott Central 83, Puxico 21
The top-seeded Scott County Central Bravettes overpowered eighth-seeded Puxico 83-21 in the first round of the Delta New Year’s girls basketball tournament Monday night.
Puxico coach Jim Carrier felt optimistic about his team’s performance after an 18-day layoff.
"I felt like our girls opened a new chapter in the season last night,” Carrier said. “Mistakes were made, but there were fewer than the previous games. I liked our intensity, communication and determination.
“On the other hand, a lot of the mistakes and fouls we committed, I feel, were in large part to our month-long hiatus. The girls got better individually over the break, and that showed in many ways tonight, but they were rusty as far as playing the game. Those problems will fix themselves."
Puxico, who fell to 0-6, scored a season-high 21 points in the loss.
