DDD BASKETBALL ROUNDUP: Holcomb girls beat Greenville, Malden girls fall to Chaffee

No. 9 Holcomb 45, No. 16 Greenville 25

BROSELEY, Mo. - The No. 9 seeded Holcomb Hornets rallied from an 8-6 deficit after the first quarter to beat the No. 16 seeded Greenville Bears 45-25 in a consolation quarterfinal at the Lady Royals Classic Monday morning.

Holcomb outscored Greenville by 10 points in the second and third quarters to build a 38-20 lead by the start of the fourth quarter.

Selena Burress paced Holcomb with 11 points. Hannah Burk and Bailey Cupples also finished in double digits for the Hornets with 10 points each.

Mattie Allen tallied a team-high nine points for Greenville. Mackenzie Marler finished one point behind with eight points.

Holcomb will take on Kelly in a consolation semifinal Friday at noon.

No. 13 seeded Kelly beat No. 12 seeded Portageville 52-29 in its consolation quarterfinal Monday.

No. 14 seeded Chaffee jumped out to a 20-8 lead after one quarter of play and hung on to beat No. 11 seeded Malden 52-48 in a consolation quarterfinal of the Lady Royals Classic Monday morning

Chaffee led 33-20 at halftime before Malden won the second half by nine points to get within four points.

Five players tallied at least eight points for Chaffee. Braelyn Pobst led the way with 14 points. Ashtyn Rains scored 12 points, Lilly Wessel and Brooke Kilburn each put up nine points, and Lauren Wagoner tallied eight points.

Arionne Ross tallied a team-high 19 points for Malden. She scored 14 points after halftime.

Brydon Maddox tallied six points in each half for the Malden to finish with 12 points.

Malden enters the Christmas break with a record of 2-7.

Chaffee (4-5) plays East Carter County (4-3) in a consolation semifinal Friday at 1:30 p.m.

No. 10 seeded East Carter County beat No. 15 seeded Clearwater 52-43 in a consolation quarterfinal Monday.
