STATESMAN ROUNDUP: Advance, Bloomfield drop second-round games at Bloomfield girls basketball tournament

The fourth-seeded Holcomb Hornets secured a spot in the championship game of the Bloomfield Invitational girls basketball tournament Wednesday night.

Holcomb upset the second-seeded Advance Hornets 61-32 in the semifinals at Bloomfield High School.

Holcomb (4-2) will face Campbell for the championship at 8 p.m. Thursday. Advance (5-3) meet the East Carter junior varsity for third place at 6:30 p.m. Thursday.

Third-seeded Campbell beat top-seeded Senath-Hornersville 54-43 in Wednesday’s other semifinal

Holcomb held Advance’s leading scorer, Alandry Below, to 14 points, 11 under her average. Teammate Danielle Markham made three 3-pointers and finished with 12 points.

Macy Houart paced Holcomb with 15 points and Bailey Cupples had 14.

Holcomb held quarter leads of 12-7, 32-10 and 48-26.

East Carter JV 31, Bloomfield 29

The East Carter junior varsity rallied to beat Bloomfield 31-29 in a consolation game of the Bloomfield Invitational on Wednesday night at Bloomfield High School.

Bloomfield (0-5) led 7-4 after one quarter, the score was tied at 9 at halftime and Bloomfield took a 20-19 lead into the fourth quarter.

Johnna Costigan paced Bloomfield with eight points, and Ashton Bell and Savanna Spicer had six each.

Britney Croy scored a game-high 10 points for East Carter.

Bloomfield will meet Senath-Hornersville for fourth place at 5 p.m. Thursday.
