DDD BASKETBALL ROUNDUP: Southland & Senath-Hornersville reach semifinals of Campbell Tournament, Clarkton upsets Risco

CAMPBELL BOYS BASKETBALL TOURNAMENT

CAMPBELL, Mo. - The No. 3 seeded Southland Rebels booked a spot in the championship semifinals of the Campbell Tournament by beating the No. 6 seeded Delta C-7 Chargers 72-68 Tuesday night.

Delta C-7 jumped out to a 21-15 lead after one quarter before Southland rallied to tie things up at 36-all by halftime. The quarterfinal remained tied at 52-all at the end of the third quarter before Southland won the fourth quarter 20-16.

Shayne Tomblin helped fuel Southland’s fourth-quarter success, scoring nine of his team-high 21 points in the final eight minutes of play.

Cyrus Luke also finished in double digits for Southland. Luke hit half of his team’s four treys on his way to a 17-point night.

Ky’ran Luster recorded at least on field goal in every quarter on his way to a game-high 22 points for Delta C-7. Luster finished with a team-high nine 2-pointers.

Levi Smith and Maurion Hattiex also finished in double digits for the Chargers. Smith scored 12 of his 14 points in the second half and Hattiex tallied eight of his 10 points before halftime.

Southland (2-2) will take on Senath-Hornersville in a championship semifinal at Campbell Thursday at 8 p.m.

Delta C-7 (1-5) plays Piggott (Ark.) in a consolation semifinal at Campbell Thursday at 5 p.m.

No. 2 seeded Senath-Hornersville beat No. 7 seeded Armorel 83-53 in the other quarterfinal Tuesday. No additional information on the Armorel/Senath-Hornersville quarterfinal was available by press deadline Tuesday night.

CLARKTON BOYS BASKETBALL TOURNAMENT

CLARKTON, Mo. - The No. 8 seeded Clarkton Reindeer upset the No. 5 seeded Risco Tigers 79-64 in a consolation semifinal of its own varsity boys basketball tournament Tuesday night.

Clarkton jumped out to a 17-9 lead after one quarter of play, led 36-25 at halftime, and increased its lead to 57-40 by the end of the third quarter before Risco won the fourth quarter by two points.

Five Clarkton players scored in double digits.

Izaya Gorman led the way for Clarkton with 31 points on eight 2-pointers, three treys, and six made free throws. Rica Brown contributed 15 more points. Caleb Plunkett, Matthew Shipley, and Kade Coleman each tallied 10 points for the Reindeer.

Andrew Rodgers tallied 10 of his team-high 22 points for Risco in the fourth quarter. Hayden Ludwig scored 15 of his 16 points in the second half for the Tigers. Kamron Meese, who hit half of his squad’s four treys, also scored in double digits for Risco with 14 points.

Risco enters the Christmas break with a record of 3-6. Risco is back in action Jan. 7 when it visits South Pemiscot.

Clarkton (1-6) will play in the consolation championship of its own tournament Friday at 5:30 p.m.
