DDD BASKETBALL ROUNDUP: Senath-Hornersville boys hand Cooter first loss, Campbell girls edge Caruthersville

BOYS BASKETBALL: Senath-Hornersville 73, Cooter 52

SENATH, Mo. - The Senath-Hornersville Lions varsity boys basketball team won each of the first three quarters by single digits as it knocked off the previously unbeaten Cooter Wildcats 73-52 Thursday night.

Senath-Hornersville (5-1) led 21-15 after one quarter, 39-24 at halftime, and 54-33 at the end of the third quarter. Cooter and Senath-Hornersville both put up 19 points in the fourth period.

Knolan Hunter paced Senath-Hornersville with 19 points. Hunter recorded a team-high eight 2-point baskets.

Isai Lopez knocked down six 2-pointers and a trey to finish with 15 points for the Lions.

Parker Rhew also finished in double digits for Senath-Hornersville with 13 points.

Jacob Watkins knocked down five of his team-high eight 3-pointers on his way to a team-high 20 points for Cooter (5-1).

Lane McLevain also finished in double digits for Cooter with a dozen points. McLevain his three treys in the first quarter.

Senath-Hornersville hosts Caruthersville Friday. Cooter is off until it begins play in the Clarkton Christmas Tournament Monday at 7 p.m. when it takes on East Carter County.

BOYS BASKETBALL: Risco 77, Delta C-7 44

RISCO, Mo. - The Risco Tigers varsity boys basketball team knocked down eight 3-pointers as it shot its way past the visiting Delta C-7 Chargers 77-44 in Tri-County Conference action Thursday night.

Risco led 18-6 after one quarter before increasing its lead to 38-15 at halftime. Delta C-7 played Risco to a 20-20 stalemate in the third quarter before losing the fourth quarter by 10 points.

"We moved the ball well offensively and played solid defense for three out of the four quarters,” Risco coach Brandon Blankenship said. “We are looking to continue to improve and build off this conference win."

Kamron Meese hit a team-high three 3-pointers for Risco (3-4). Andrew Rodgers and Evan Pipkin each added a pair of treys. Rodgers scored a team-high 29 points, Meese added 20 points, and Pipkin tallied 16 points.

Maurion Hattiex paced Delta C-7 (1-4) with 19 points. He scored all of his points before the start of the fourth quarter. K’yRan Luster hit two of the Chargers’ three treys. He finished with 16 points.

GIRLS BASKETBALL: Campbell 56, Caruthersville 54

CARUTHERSVILLE, Mo. - The Campbell Camels varsity girls basketball team rallied from a 20-9 deficit after the first quarter to edge the Caruthersville Tigers 56-54 Thursday night.

Campbell (3-3) won the second quarter by two points, third quarter by nine points, and fourth quarter by two points as it erased the 11-point deficit.

Gabrielle Nelson scored all of her team-high 16 points after the first quarter to pace Campbell with 16 points.

Madisyn Townsend and Adrionna Pearson also enjoyed strong finishes for the Camels. Townsend scored 10 of her 13 points after halftime and Pearson scored eight of her 10 points in the second half.

Latica Hamilton hit a field goal in every quarter on her way to a team-high 16 points for Caruthersville (1-3). Britney Jordan also finished in double digits for the Tigers with 15 points.

GIRLS BASKETBALL: New Madrid County Central 45, Kennett 44

NEW MADRID, Mo. - The New Madrid County Central Eagles varsity girls basketball team jumped out to a 15-5 lead after one quarter of play and barely outlasted the visiting Kennett Indians 45-44 in a crucial district affair Thursday night.

New Madrid County Central led 23-16 at halftime before increasing its lead back to double digits at 36-26 by the start of the fourth quarter. Kennett outscored New Madrid County Central by nine points in the fourth period to finish one point shy of forcing overtime.

Caroline Patton helped fuel the Indians’ comeback, scoring 13 of her team-high 15 points after halftime.

Ayannah Ruff paced New Madrid County Central with 15 points. Shakyra Wright also finished in double digits for the Eagles with 14 points.

New Madrid County Central (2-1) visits Malden Monday. Kennett (3-3) plays its first home game against Doniphan Thursday.
