Risco boys basketball team blisters Roosevelt 64-31 at Riverbend Classic

NEW MADRID, Mo. - The Risco Tigers boys basketball team recovered quickly after falling behind Roosevelt 15-11 after one quarter of play at the Riverbend Classic in New Madrid Saturday.

Risco outscored Roosevelt 26-5 in the second quarter to move ahead 37-21 by halftime. The success continued for Risco in the second half as it won the third quarter 19-5 and the fourth quarter 8-6 on its way to a convincing 64-31 victory.

“We looked more confident today and had great energy defensively and on the boards,” Risco coach Brandon Blankinship said. “We had balanced scoring with four guys in double digits. Michael Hull did a fantastic job defensively on Justin Boyd, holding him to four points.

"We were very blessed to get an opportunity to play in the Riverbend,” Blankinship added. “It’s always beneficial to go up against bigger schools. It pays off in the long run, especially when you can gain confidence by having some success.”

Andrew Rodgers paced Risco with 22 points on nine 2-pointers and four made free throws.

Evan Pipkin and Kamron Meese both hit a pair of treys for Risco (1-1). Pipkin scored 15 points and Meese tallied 12 points. Hayden Ludwig added 15 points on seven 2-pointers and a made free throw.

Andre Cooper paced Roosevelt with nine points.

Risco made 11 of 12 free throws. Roosevelt knocked down just 1 of 6 shots from the charity stripe.

Cairo 80, Risco 41

NEW MADRID, Mo – A dominant start guided Cairo, Ill., to an 80-41 win over Risco Friday at the Riverbend Classic.

Cairo jumped out of the gate to a 23-8 lead after the first quarter and extended their lead to 21-points, 41-20 entering halftime. Cairo also won the third quarter 19-17 and the fourth period 20-4.

Daurice Morse led Cairo with 18 points. Dequavius Williams added 16 more points for Risco.

Andrew Rodgers paced the Tigers with 17 points. Evan Pipkin also finished in double digits for Risco with 10 points.
