DDD BASKETBALL ROUNDUP: Senath-Hornersville boys outlast Piggott 72-69 in OT, Malden girls fall to Oran 70-31

PIGGOTT, Ark. - The Senath-Hornersville Lions varsity boys basketball team opened its season on a high note Friday night.

Senath-Hornersville rallied from a 19-10 deficit at the end of the first quarter to win at Piggott (Ark.) 72-69 in overtime.

Piggott maintained a 36-31 lead at halftime and led 46-42 at the end of the third quarter before the Lions rallied to tie things up at 58-all by the end of the fourth quarter and won the overtime session 14-11.

"Overall I thought we came on the road in an opener and overcame a lot of adversity and got out of here with a win," Senath-Hornersville coach Corbin Clark said. "It was a good way to kick off the year."

Isai Lopez paced the Lions in the paint with a team-high 21 points.

Drake King knocked down five of the Lions’ six 3-pointers. He finished with 17 points.

Knolan Hunter and Parker Rhew also finished in double digits for the Lions with 12 and 11 points respectively.

Cooper Harris paced Piggott with 31 points.

No. 6 seeded Senath-Hornersville takes on No. 3 seeded Hayti Dec. 2 at 7 p.m. in a quarterfinal of the Bulldog Classic at Gideon.

GIRLS BASKETBALL: Oran 70, Malden 31

MALDEN, Mo. - The visiting Oran Eagles outscored Malden in every quarter on its way to a 70-31 win in a varsity girls basketball opener Friday night.

Oran led 18-4 after one quarter, 35-15 at halftime, and 58-24 at the end of the third quarter.

Madison Saulsbery paced Malden with 13 points. She hit three of her team's four treys.

Katie Webb paced Oran with 30 points. Kaylee Payne also finished in double digits with 18 points.

Oran also won the JV game 58-27.
