Holcomb beats Kennett 24-21 in BHC eighth grade girls basketball championship

No. 1 seeded Holcomb beat No. 2 seeded Kennett 24-21 in the eighth grade championship of the Bootheel Conference middle school girls basketball tournament Thursday at Holcomb High School.

Things were tied at eight-all after one quarter before Holcomb won the second quarter by six to move ahead 16-10 at halftime. Kennett cut the deficit 18-17 by the end of the third quarter before Holcomb pushed the final margin of victory back to five points.

Kaetlyn Danley scored all eight of the Hornets' points in the second half. She finished with a game-high 14 points.

Jayla Moore paced Kennett with eight points. Tania Parnell added seven and Valeria Garcia recorded six points for the Indians.

Jules Gurley contributed six points and Maleigh Lemings recorded four points for Holcomb.
